    Meaning: Realism vs Skepticism.Vsevolod A. Ladov - 2024 - Epistemology and Philosophy of Science 61 (2):43-50.
A straight solution to Kripke’s problem proposed by Borisov is discussed in the article. The significance of the problem for modern philosophy of language and epistemology is established. Controversial aspects in Borisov’s study are analyzed. The main question is following. What solution to Kripke’s problem would be considered straight? It is argued that Borisov’s solution does not reach the level of a straight solution although it represents a significant step in this direction. The methodological importance of Borisov’s thesis that knowledge (...)

Logical paradoxes solution in semantically closed language.Vsevolod Ladov - 2017 - Epistemology and Philosophy of Science 52 (2):104-119.
The author considers following question: is a consistent semantically closed language possible? The negative answer is the orthodox answer in the logic of the 20th century. It was presented in Russell's theory of types and Tarski's semantic theory of metalanguages. Nevertheless, contemporary logicians and philosophers of language return to this problem time and again, pointing to its relevance in various aspects. In particular, it is asserted that semantically closed language is a very important tool for expressing logical and philosophical ideas. (...)

The phenomenon of self-reference combines self-refutation in the case of Plato’s critics of Protagoras in “Theaetetus” and self-predication in the case of a difficulty which Plato himself faces developing the theory of ideas in “Parmenides”. The author of the article asserts that self-predication does not produce a negative impact on Plato’s metaphysics and in no way destroys the integrality of Plato’s philosophy: It is logically correct as are both his criticism of Protagoras’ relativism and the theory of ideas.

Perceptual Learning of Intonation Contour Categories in Adults and 9‐ to 11‐Year‐Old Children: Adults Are More Narrow‐Minded.Vsevolod Kapatsinski, Paul Olejarczuk & Melissa A. Redford - 2017 - Cognitive Science 41 (2):383-415.
We report on rapid perceptual learning of intonation contour categories in adults and 9- to 11-year-old children. Intonation contours are temporally extended patterns, whose perception requires temporal integration and therefore poses significant working memory challenges. Both children and adults form relatively abstract representations of intonation contours: Previously encountered and novel exemplars are categorized together equally often, as long as distance from the prototype is controlled. However, age-related differences in categorization performance also exist. Given the same experience, adults form narrower categories (...)

In his article, Vsevolod Ladov poses an important question – might paradoxes admit of a uniform solution? As an answer, I propose looking at an approach in which it is argued that we must recognize the truth predicate as merely analogous to a vague predicate. The proponents of this approach (V. McGee, J. Tappenden, H. Field, G. Priest and D. Hyde) insist that there is a structural relation between sorites paradoxes and self-reference paradoxes and that they should have (...)

    Defragmenting Learning.Vsevolod Kapatsinski - 2023 - Cognitive Science 47 (6):e13301.
In the 1990s, language acquisition researchers and theoretical linguists developed an interest in learning mechanisms, and learning theorists rediscovered the verbal learning tradition. Nonetheless, learning theory and language acquisition continued to develop largely independently, which has stymied progress in both fields. However, exciting progress is happening in applying learning theory to language, and, more recently, in using language learning data to advance domain‐general learning theory. These developments raise hopes for a bidirectional flow of information between the fields. The importance of (...)

The limits of certainty in the oral history of philosophy: the problem of memory.Vsevolod Khoma - 2019 - Filosofska Dumka (Philosophical Thought) 4:67-80.
The article argues that the oral history of philosophy (OHP) will not produce reliable results unless it develops effective methods of counteracting cognitive biases related to human memory. So far, this problem has not even been raised. I highlighted the main cognitive memory biases that affect the validity of the UIF: choice-supportive bias, hindsight bias, fundamental attribution error. Describing the nature of their detrimental effects on the interview, I suggested ways to counteract it: (1) multi-level verification of all actual data; (...)

The author of the article addresses sadism as an ontological problem and analyses the primordial way of solving the problem of human existence in the works of the Marquis de Sade, citing similarities and differences. To substantiate his thesis, the author analyses the correlation between corporeality and the ontological place of libertines and victims, proving that the ontological status is located in the body. Through the consideration of sadism and masochism, the author shows the transition of sadism into masochism, the (...)

    ”Sex is always the center…” Philosophy of Love by V. V. Rosanov.Vsevolod Kuznetsov & Lubov Nerusheva - 2010 - Sententiae 22 (1):147-182.
This paper is dedicated to V. V. Rosanov views on the issue of sexual love. Analyzing the system of Rosanov’s notions of the God, nature and sex, authors show how the philosopher is trying to create pansexualistic quasireligious doctrine versus Christianity. The thinker is referred to as a radical ideologist of mystical-erotic revolution and a mouthpiece of peculiar to Russian culture trend towards the construction of a national religion.

Under the yoke of women: the Enlightenment's dialectics of the power of Nature and the power over Nature.Vsevolod Kuznetsov - 2005 - Sententiae 12 (1):104-123.
The article is devoted to the criticism of the thesis about the female-feminist Enlightenment. The author analyzes the relationship between man, woman and nature in the context of domination. Under the influence of Rousseau's works, the author conducts a study of the social and natural in their correlation with the feminine-masculine. The author believes that the theory of female Enlightenment is a postmodern speculative discourse, and therefore has no historical validity.

Marxism as a normative position is critical of liberalism. However, the problems of justice and alienation that Marxism draws attention to can be solved by liberalism without the implementation of a Marxist political project. The purpose of the article is to substantiate the thesis that Martha Nussbaum's capabilities approach (one of the versions of political liberalism) is a more inclusive and rational method of theorizing about the basic principles of justice than Marxism. By analyzing Elizabeth Anderson's theory of liberal egalitarianism (...)

This article opens a cycle of articles devoted to the ontological aspects of the phenomenon of Enlightenment. The Enlightenment is treated as an internal mechanism of civilization designed to manipulate being (establishment in being – deprivation or attenuation of being). Comparing autochthonous and borrowed Enlightenments, the author tries to trace some patterns of interactions of ontologizing mechanisms of the enlightenmental type and to compare them with the similar mechanisms of different types. In the first article the author analyses the ideas (...)

    Mind, will to power and alienation in Nietzsche’s philosophy.Vsevolod Kuznetsov & Liubov Nerusheva - 2002 - Sententiae 6 (2):3-18.
The article examines the problem of alienation as a result of the conflict between consciousness and instincts, which includes aspects of 1) temporal conflict and 2) attempts to self-destruct the individual. Through this conflict, the imperfection of the individual makes it possible for him to develop. The authors also correlate the concepts of alienation and consciousness, which opens up space for criticism of Nietzsche's concepts of herd mentality and the possibility of human cognition of the external world.

A word often expresses many different morphological functions. Which part of a word contributes to which part of the overall meaning is not always clear, which raises the question as to how such functions are learned. While linguistic studies tacitly assume the co-occurrence of cues and outcomes to suffice in learning these functions (Baer-Henney, Kügler, & van de Vijver, 2015; Baer-Henney & van de Vijver, 2012), error-driven learning suggests that contingency rather than contiguity is crucial (Nixon, 2020; Ramscar, Yarlett, Dye, (...)

First, I love Greek language, a language which allow me to perceive what a language is, and what translation could mean. Then, I think it is because of Heidegger. At the time, we used to study classical antiquity and the pre-socratics through Heidegger and Nietzsche’s work. It has been proven that philosophical dialogues and debates using digital information dissemination tools now play a leading role in popularizing philosophy beyond the academic community. It has been established that the main differences between oral dialogue and printed interviews are the degree of text editing, the possibility of changing the positions of dialogue participants, the presence of speech intonational and emotional colouring, and stylistic communication limitations. The perceptual advantages of oral dialogue lie in its accessibility to a wide range (...)

    A Straight Solution to Kripke’s Problem.Evgeny V. Borisov - 2024 - Epistemology and Philosophy of Science 61 (2):23-32.
The paper suggests a straight solution to the problem of meaning skepticism presented in Kripke’s Wittgenstein on Rules and Private Language. The solution is based on Ladov’s moderate solution to the problem. Ladov’s solution is to the effect that the total skepticism cannot be a theory because it cannot be stated without performative contradiction. This entails that only a limited skepticism is possible as a theory. I argue that the limited skepticism is compatible with the view that meaning (...)

The scientific career of the outstanding Russian physiologist A. A. Ukhtomskii was complex and full of contradictions. A descendant of Prince Vsevolod Big Nest [Bol'shoe Gnezdo] of Suzdal', he was strongly influenced by the traditions and legends of his caste. The article is a critical reaction to the approach considered by V.A. Ladov in his work “On the principle of uniform solution of paradoxes”. It is assumed that the consideration of some of the eight classical logical-semantic paradoxes in the light of type theory eliminates the situation of contradiction, while maintaining the prospect of automatic references. It is also assumed that, based on this perspective, a unified idea of the essence of paradoxes and the mechanism for their solution is (...)

Did Meyerhold Influence Brecht? A Comparison of Their Antirealistic Theatrical Aesthetics.Peter Zazzali - 2008 - The European Legacy 13 (3):293-305.
As two of the most important twentieth-century theatre directors, Bertolt Brecht and Vsevolod Meyerhold shared striking artistic, personal, and professional similarities. In addition to their middle-class background, both were the sons of merchants, well educated, politically persecuted, and exposed to the cultural innovations that spread throughout Germany and Russia during the 1920s and 1930s. Although Brecht's legacy is more salient, Meyerhold's artistic contributions can be traced to the work of numerous successors, including Brecht himself.

The article deals with the arguments of V.A. Ladov regarding to the principle of uniform solution of logical and semantical paradoxes proposed by G. Priest. V.A. Ladov thinks that in addition to self-referentiality negation is necessary element for the occurrence of paradoxes. However, negation is a merely syntactical analogue of the basic semantical concepts of truth and falsehood. Science truth and falsehood are the main characteristics of the objects in relation to which paradoxes are formulated, selfreferentiality is the (...)

The article discusses Ladov’s proposals for a uniform solution of classical set-theoretic and semantic paradoxes. It is shown that Ladov’s approach faces two difficulties. Firstly, the method of eliminating negation from the formulations of paradoxes leads to new paradoxes, which is demonstrated by the example of Loeb’s theorem. Secondly, the appeal in Ladov’s argumentation to the “Russell scheme” adopted by G. Priest is not significant, due to Priest's dialetheism, according to which contradictions are allowed. The latter circumstance (...)

The article analyzes literature addressing the problem of reality in modern anti-realist theories. The purpose of the review is to expand the circle of researchers, including not only representatives of analytical philosophy, but also those of the phenomenological tradition, since the principle of phenomenological reduction corresponds to the general conceptual attitude of anti-realists, and in methodological terms, phenomenology more consistently implements the program of anti-realism. The principle of anti-realist philosophy is shown as exemplified in solutions of the “difficult problem of (...)

Psychoanalysis is the name of a practical psychology, which seeks to make intelligible the aberrant phenomena in the stream of human experience which often are coincident with suffering and ineffectuality. In addition, it has another distinguishing characteristic in that it seeks to create a teachable method for the systematic treatment of these disturbances in adaptation. The application of scientific method to a psychology with these objectives created problems which are unique. These problems stem from the nature of the subject matter (...)
